The name of this chord can be confusing. In fact the structure of it is simple - a triad plus a dimished ninth. So it would not be totally wrong to name it Eb9 or E-9 but in first case it would seem that the flat goes for the root and in the second example it can confuse those who are used to see the dash as a indicator of the minor third. So Eadd-9 it is!
This chord is most often used in flamenco. Especially in A minor where it is the dominant and the dimished ninth adds some colour and tension. A typical harmony would be Am(9)-G(13)-F(maj7)-Eadd-9
